Create a mission statement.

According to Schafft and Biddle (2013), mission statements reflect the vision for an educational organization. This is one of the reasons that having a mission statement is vital.

Mission statement: Higley High School aims to create a positive learning environment that fosters academic, social, and emotional growth for all.

Create a list of strategic goals and objectives.

Goals:

Increase the percentage of students who graduate with a high school diploma in four years to at least 90 percent.

At least 80 percent of all students pass the state of Michigan standard test.

Increase the total amount of community service hours served by students and staff to 600 hours per semester.

Raise 10 percent more funds for the school year during fundraising and donation events.

The United States education system has emphasized the importance of student outcomes (Schafft and Biddle, 2013). For this reason, I chose to create the first two goals focusing on student outcomes.

Objectives:

The curriculum will meet state and federal requirements and standards.

Students and staff will follow school rules and be respectful to others at all times.

The importance of an active lifestyle will be communicated in health and physical education classes.

The school will encourage clear and open communication among the entire school community.

Determine methods that will assist the committee to examine current programs and develop new programs.

Create subcommittees that specialize in evaluating different areas. For example, creating a subcommittee that focuses on technology implementation and a separate subcommittee that focuses on academic performance. Openly communicate with the superintendent of the Highley School District to ensure that current programs are meeting or exceeding expectations. Evaluating teachers in most countries is continuing to evolve (Dodson, 2017). With this being said, it is important to remember that as things shift and evolve, evaluation methods may need to change or improve.

Determine several possible curriculum planning initiatives.

Schools need a simple and clear way of organizing the content involved in the curriculum (Bage et al., (1999). Communicating the goals and expectations in regards to following the curriculum to all teachers will be essential. The curriculum should be straightforward and follow the state standards. Involving stakeholders in the curriculum planning process will also be important. From my experience, I have gathered that most teachers want to be involved in the process and have input.

Determine the tools for gathering input from all stakeholders.

Online survey tools will be used to gather input from stakeholders and to document their feedback. The survey tools used will be SurveyMonkey and QuestionPro.

Conference calls will be recorded and documented.

Input from stakeholders will also be gathered in person using a feedback form.

Surveys that will be completed Anonymously will also be sent out to stakeholders to gather feedback.

Idea mapping using diagrams will be collected from a whiteboard. Stakeholders will have the opportunity to write down their ideas or feedback on a large whiteboard that is used by the entire committee.
