Portfolio Task 4 (1.1) Developmental Timelines For this task, you need to produce a series of timelines to explain the sequence (order) and rate (approximate expected age) of developmental timelines. You may present these in any way you see fit. A tabular format would be a suggestion.

You should cover each of the following, from Birth to 7 years:

• Cognitive

• Speech, Language and Communication

• Literacy and Numeracy

• Physical

• Emotional

• Social

• Neurological and Brain Development

Assignment 5 (1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 2.1, 2.2, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3., 3.4, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4) 2500 words (+/- 10%) Within this assignment, you are going to analyse the development of children and how this may be affected. You will also consider how to support children who are identified with additional needs, including working in partnership with others. Transitions and the impact of these will also be discussed.

You will need to structure your work in the following manner: Part 1 approximately 500 words (1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 2.1, 2.2) In the first part of the assignment, you should analyse the difference between the rate and sequence of development, explaining a range of personal and external factors that may impact on a child’s development. Include examples of how these factors may influence the following:

• Speech, language and communication.

• Personal, social and emotional development.

• Physical development. Part 2 approximately 1500 words (3.1, 3.2, 3.3., 3.4, 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4) Within this section of your assignment, you need to cover the following:

• Analyse the importance of early identification of development delays. Provide example child case studies from within your own setting. Include the potential risks related to not identifying developmental delays, and the future impact on the child.

• Explain why it is important to work in partnership with others to support all aspects of a child’s development. Include thorough examples of working with other professionals and a variety of interventions, such as speech therapy, within your answer.

Provide an evaluation as to how your setting currently works with others in partnership for child development.

Explain how and in what circumstances different methods are used for assessing, recording and monitoring children’s development within your own setting. Explain thoroughly a range of different assessment and monitoring methods that are, or could be, utilised.

• Evaluate the importance of accurate documentation regarding the development of children.

Part 3 approximately 500 words (4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4) For this final part, you will discuss attachment and transitions and the impact on a child’s development.

You need to: • Explain the significance of attachment. Relate this to at least two relevant theories.

• Explain how different types of transitions can affect children’s development

. • Explain the importance of having positive relationships through periods of transition.

• Evaluate the effectiveness of positive relationships on holistic development.
