What are some examples of 19th-century European nationalism? Why and how are they significant to modern European history?

Read these directions very carefully so that you do the best job possible.

1. Please choose THREE questions from the following list.

2. Each question must be answered with a separate essay, but all three essays must be in the same document. Do NOT submit more than one document. It must be a .doc or .docx file. No other file types will be accepted. If you submit the wrong kind of file, I will alert you, but you are still responsible for submitting the exam in the proper format by the deadline.

3. The TOTAL page length of the final exam must be SIX to EIGHT pages, double-spaced, Times New Roman font, 1” margins all around, no extra spaces between paragraphs or between your name header and title, etc. Please do not attempt to alter the margins or the font size. I will check. Final exams that are shorter than SIX full pages will get an automatic D. That means six full pages, to the very end of the page.

4. Your essays do not all have to be the same length, but each must be at least two full pages.
5. No cover page, please.

6. Included at the end of the document must be ONE page of endnotes for all three essays. After that will come ONE bibliography. Endnotes and bibliography must be in proper Chicago style. Slight errors will not lose more than a point or two, but if you do not use Chicago style as carefully as possible, you will lose an automatic ten points. Please do not submit a separate document with your endnotes/bibliography. Everything must come in together.

7. Please make sure that your name and class number are on your document and that you save your document with your name and class number. When you send your email with your one document as an attachment, make sure that your email subject line has your name and class number.

8. You may not repeat yourself! For example, if you discuss the Enlightenment in one question, you may not do so again.

9. You must show proof that you have done the required readings. You may use lectures, and other academic sources, but they too must be cited properly.
