FORUM DESCRIPTION
This week we will be investigating the Presidential practice of appointment. The President has the power to personally appoint approximately 7000 members of the Federal workforce including White House Staff members, Cabinet Secretaries and Sub-Secretaries, and Judges serving in the Federal Court System. Given that the U.S. is a very diverse country, how does the federal government reflect the nation in terms of leadership?
1. Identify one RECENT PRESIDENTIAL administative appointment and design a political RESUME for a minority (woman, national origin, sexual orientation or gender identiy, ethnic or religious) high ranking federal appointee that is serving or previously served in a leadership position in the Federal (not State) government.
Conduct Internet research to learn the particulars about your high ranking public servant. Yes, I am looking for an actual resume that YOU will design. Put your resume directly into the post using the edit tools at the top of the box to make it look official. Do NOT make a link. If you have formatting problems get help and help each other. Proper formatting is part of the assignment. Include the following items:
2. Begin by defining the position to which the person was appointed including a description of the job or department for which this person is or was responsible. Do this in a brief paragraph near the beginning of the resume. This is to help your classmates quickly understand this person’s position.
3. Describe the public servant’s educational and work history. Include a detailed list of awards received and issues on which they have been active. Fill out the resume as best as you can with the information you have found through your research.
4. Do you believe it is important that the federal government include members of all demographic groups? Why or why not? After reading your classmates’ posts, do you believe the current leadership of the Federal Government reflects our nation’s diverse identiy? Why or why not? 5. Read your classmates’ posts and comment with thoughtful commentary. Do not write simply that you agree or that their comment in interesting. Give me meat! 6. Post your sources including the complete URLs.
