Describe the results of the case. How was the matter resolved? Who won? Did the organization settle for a certain amount of money? Was the organization ordered to do anything differently in future hiring endeavors?

If you follow the news, you will often see instances of employment discrimination in hiring practices. Many large companies such as Hooters, Abercrombie & Fitch, and FedEx have been accused of discriminatory hiring practices.

For this week’s discussion you will search the Internet for an article about a recent employment discrimination case related to selection and provide a summary of the issue. You can do a general Internet search using various keywords (e.g., employment discrimination cases, hiring discrimination cases).

The New York Times and the Huffington Post often post interesting articles regarding such cases. You could also visit the EEOC’s website (Links to an external site.) for a list of recent cases to choose from. Try to find a case that involves a large organization that your classmates would be familiar with. Be sure that the case involves discriminatory selection procedures (not whistleblowing, sexual harassment, hostile work environment, etc.).

In the subject box write the name of the company that was sued. **important note: Be sure you select a case that is different from those that have already been summarized.** Address the following in your post:

Provide a summary of the main issue in your own words (Do Not cut and paste from the article or news brief). Why was the company being sued? What were they accused of doing? Why is what the company did in its selection process illegal? What protected class(es) were involved (females, racial minority, etc.)?

Describe the results of the case. How was the matter resolved? Who won? Did the organization settle for a certain amount of money? Was the organization ordered to do anything differently in future hiring endeavors?

Feel free to add your own thoughts or opinions about the case (this is a discussion after all!). Given what you know about this organization were you surprised with the allegations? Was the final decision fair in your opinion?
