Provide the same data in both the text and figures, so both can “stand alone” and a reader would fully understand the results from looking at either of them.

Results Writing Assignment: Acid and Bases (Aqueous Solutions)

Instructions: For this assignment, you’ll be writing a Results section for the acid and base experiment you observed in Week 5 Lab. This would be one part of a full lab report and will help prepare you for writing a full lab report in a future week. Your Results will include both text and a figure.

For the text, begin with an overview sentence to explain to the reader what was done. Then, state your results simply in text. Do not explain or interpret your results in this Results section (that would be saved for the Discussion in a full lab report). For simple experiments like ours, the entire text will probably be a short paragraph. Show the data in a figure (same data that you described in the text) and refer the figure within the text.

• The overview sentence to explain what was done should be brief, telling your reader the overall scheme of your experiment. Extensive detail should not be included, just a quick overview. Example overview sentence below: The amount of caffeine was determined in three different temperature preparations of coffee, for dark and medium roast beans.

• Do not include raw data from multiple samples, only summarized data (usually an average).

• Provide the same data in both the text and figures, so both can “stand alone” and a reader would fully understand the results from looking at either of them.

• Refer to each table or graph in the text, using language similar to “As seen in Figure 1. “

• Write in third person, passive voice, and past tense.

• Be precise and concise! In other words, be as specific as you can while eliminating extra words or phrases that don’t contribute new meaning.

• Use Calibri, 12pt font, 1.5 line spacing, 1” margins.

• Submit your final document as a PDF (this file format is more stable with images than .docx)
