Instructions to Students:
• You need to answer two essay questions from the list of questions
• The maximum total word count limit for each essay is 1200 words. This is an absolute limit – There is no +/- 10% on word count and anything after the maximum word count will not be marked, in line with UWE’s Word Count Policy. The reference list is not included in the 1200-word count limit however citations in the main body of your essay are included in the word count.
• You need to submit a reference list for each question you answer. Hence, you need to submit one reference list for each essay question. Your reference list should not include lecturers’ lecture or seminar slides. Your reference should consist of peer reviewed journal articles and books cited in your essay. The reference lists should be formatted according to the APA guidelines. If you do not submit a reference list of the citations in the essay, your essay will not be marked and you will receive a mark of zero. Hence, you may fail the module.
Formatting
• Your online submission for this should be in the form of a single Word or PDF file. That is, you need to provide the two essays and relevant reference lists on one single word document.
• We cannot ensure that formats other than Microsoft Word or PDF are compatible with markers’ software and cannot guarantee to mark incorrect formats.

Answer two questions from the following list of questions

1. Drawing on research evidence discuss the challenges of diagnosing Foetal Alcohol Syndrome.

6. There are three main cognitive explanations of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). These are impaired ‘theory of mind’, ‘central coherence’, and ‘executive function’ skills. Critically evaluate how these three domains of cognitive skills might be related to each other and contribute to the observed cognitive, communicative and behavioural difficulties in ASD.
7. Define Autism Spectrum Disorder and drawing on research evidence explain how and why raising a child with autism may affect parent’s psychological well-being.

8. Explain how conduct disorders are diagnosed and discuss why a multimodal approach is needed to prevent them escalating to more serious mental health problems later in life.
Your answer should draw on research evidence.
9. Why is it important to specify conduct disorders in terms of ‘childhood onset type, adolescent onset type, unspecified onset and with limited prosocial emotions’? Discuss the importance of specifying conduct disorders under these four main categories in terms of understanding the causal factors underlying conduct disorders and prognosis (long-term outcomes).

17. Explain the challenges of assessing the effectiveness of prevention programmes. Illustrate your answer with examples based on both the Positive Parenting Programme (Triple P) and Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies (PATHS) programmes.
18. Drawing on research evidence discuss the links between poverty and child mental wellbeing.
